Why HIGH INTENSITY INTERVAL Training May Be Sabotaging Your Results

For those who don't know, HIGH INTENSITY INTERVAL training, is a type of training where you are working out the body in a fast pace way without rest or as little rest as possible. The intensity on the body of this type or workout is high and it can go for 20 minutes, 30 minutes or 40 minutes.


For some people it is an excellent way to accelerate fat loss and it can work great for results. But remember we are not all made up of the same genetic make up and we don't all lead the same lifestyle to suit this type of training.

Some of you might have heard the terms H.I.I.T. or Insanity or T25. These are used in group classes, group training and the famous home workout one done in your own home.

So how can something that good, be a sabotage to our results?

It all comes down to STRESS & YOUR HORMONES!!

When performing these types of workouts, you are putting your body under a lot of stress and tension. What happens when we put our bodies under stress and tension? We raise our STRESS hormone CORTISOL! As you will find me often preaching again and again, CORTISOL is a FAT STORING hormone and not a fat burning one. So the more stress we have, the more cortisol we have, which means.......yes, you guessed it........ the more fat storing we end up with.

So for those people who lead high stressful lives, be it at work, at home, or life in general or don't handle stress as well as others, when it comes to exercise, if they are prone to high cortisol levels, then this type of training will only enhance your stress hormone cortisol even more as you are putting your body back under stress and pressure to perform. This is why you do not get the same fat loss results as someone else who does this same type of exercise.

If this sounds like you, then you should still exercise yes, however you need a more of a 'rest-based' training approach where you are pushed till you can, but rest when you need to and continue when the body is ready. This way it keeps your stress hormone down whilst still getting your workout done. This is a not a free pass to take it easy and linger on in your workout. This is a pass to workout hard and be pushed but take a small break when you feel shaky, breathlessness, over heating or your performance in technique has gone down. But you are not exercising to the point of exhaustion or feeling sick. You get back in the training game as soon as your ready. Like this, it will raise your FAT BURNING hormones, Testosterone and HGH - Human Growth Hormone. So be smart about your training not just your eating!
