Even as a Trainer, I find THIS challenging....
Many people believe that since I am a trainer and hormone specialist, I have everything perfect and under control! But in all honesty, I am only human just like you and so I still find these challenges on a regular basis.
Remember hormonal balance ( & weight loss) is not a linear easy straight road or line to follow, the journey can be bumpy and up and down, which is completely normal. Our hormones shift and change on a regular basis. This can be from our lifestyle choices that day, stress, work, our monthly cycles or things that are out of our control.
Is it frustrating? Absolutely YES!
Is it annoying? Absolutely YES!
Does it feel confusing? Absolutely YES!
Does it feel like your body is failing you? Totally YES!
Can you relate?
I found it very difficult to always keep my cortisol completely balanced because as a small business owner and a mum of a toddler who loves to have a certain control over things, this was not possible every day. I had to learn to get over my own ways and learn to let go of the things that I couldn’t control.
Here’s how I got over this difficulty…
First, I made stress management more of priority.
Stress leads to high cortisol levels and we all know that stress is inevitable. Whether it is emotional, environmental or work related, all forms of stress have an effect on our hormones. So instead by making stress management a priority in my day to day life, it makes it easier to handle and aid my hormones, when the stressor hits.
Second, I took more leisure walks / slow movement instead of always working out
Some days a full workout is not what I needed, but instead I listened to when my body was tired and moved in a way that would help my body (not cause more metabolic stress), get the blood flowing, release the tension by gentle mobility body weight primal flow moves or even leisure walking. It really helped clear my head too!
Third, I made sleep a priority.
Sleep is your reset button for hormones and certain hormones get made when we sleep and other hormones get released when we sleep. So when we break our sleep cycle or take our sleep for granted (by staying up too late most nights / screen time takes over at night), then we are creating more havoc to our hormones and cause the imbalance. So by taking a nap or making sure we get a good night time and bed routine we aid our body and hormones to function a whole lot better!
I hope that you have found this useful. Whether you are trying to balance out your hormones or lose weight in the process, most times the ‘’eat less, exercise more’’ approach isn’t always the right answer!
