DO YOU HAVE THE RIGHT HORMONAL BALANCE TO LOSE WEIGHT?

A while ago I wrote a blog called IS STRESS AFFECTING YOUR WEIGHT LOSS RESULTS?. Find the link to read it here: http://denisegrixti.wixsite.com/personaltrainer/single-post/2016/08/17/IS-STRESS-AFFECTING-YOUR-WEIGHT-LOSS-RESULTS

In that blog I wrote how we live in a society where stress seems to be so normal and common. Many of us come across stress throughout our lifetime, however a lot of us do not realise how stress can be affecting our body and results. When it comes to achieving our weight loss results, we put a lot of emphasis and focus on how much exercise we are getting in, and how much we are cutting back on those calories. Yet we fail to focus on another important factor to achieve our results ….. OUR HORMONES!

Hormones control our bodily functions, so if they are out of balance and not working at their best, then our process to lose weight is very much effected.

Not to get to too complicated, I am going to talk about three important hormones, which you might have heard of. CORTISOL, TESTOSTERONE and HUMAN GROWTH HORMONE.

Let’s start with CORTISOL. Now this type of hormones is a STRESS hormone, so when you or your body is going through a high amount of stress, then the body’s cortisol levels will be at a high rate. This isn’t good if you are trying to lose weight. This type of hormone is a FAT STORING hormone, so it will store fat in your body at a higher rate (especially around the abdominal area). Thus is prevents you from getting the best results on your weight loss journey. Remember stress can be coming from any form whether it is stress from work, relationships, juggling everything at home or going through a change. Any form of stress will affect your cortisol levels.

The other two hormones I mentioned, TESTOSTERONE and HUMAN GROWTH HORMONE are the good hormones, as these are our FAT BURNING hormones. We like these type of hormones way better, because they keep our body young, keep our body burning fat at a better rate even while we are not exercising. You want to have a higher rate of these in your corner so you can burn fat efficiently and lose weight easily.

Remember when we exercise at a high intensity, we are putting our body under stress again. This too can increase your cortisol levels. Hence why with REST BASED TRAINNG such as Metabolic Effect or Metabolic Prime (a form of exercise where you can rest whenever you feel the need to, then jump back in when you are fully ready) works wonders for your weight loss results. So this is how it works. With exercise we are putting your body under stress so cortisol levels go up. Then when the client feels the need to rest at any point due to any of the following factors; breathlessness, tiredness, overheating, loses muscle stability which ends up in lack of proper posture and technique. They take their rest. Thus bringing their cortisol levels down and giving the chance for the good hormones, testosterone and human growth hormone to go up instead. With these specialized workouts, which are no longer than 30mins, the balance of the hormones will remain in effect for up to 48hours after the workout is completed. So your body remains in fat burning mode even after you have finished your training, all in the while that your stress levels remain low.

So rather than increasing your exercise load and time, you can gain better results in a smaller amount of training time.
