FITNESS FACTS
• WILL MUSCLE TURN INTO FAT IF I STOP EXERCISING? The body adapts to the demands you place on it, so if you stop exercising you could find that any muscle you have developed disappears, as it is no longer needed. That said, your muscle won’t instantly turn to fat; as long as your calorie intake matches your expenditure you should stay relatively lean. However, once you stop exercising it’s likely that you’ll still consume the same volume of food. This means you’ll consume more calories than your burning off and gain weight, which gives the illusion of muscle turning into fat. • MYTH: “Weight training doesn’t burn fat”……..FACT IS: Working out with resistance builds lean muscle tissue and, the more lean muscle you have, the higher your metabolism and the more calories you burn throughout the day. • DID YOU KNOW? Running on a regular basis leads to the growth of new cells in the memory-boosting area of the brain! • DON’T CUT CORNERS ….. It may be tempting to whizz through your weight-training routine so you can get finished at the gym quickly, but a new study has found that if you’re only doing a one set of toning exercises your results may be suffering. Researchers found that lifters who two or three sets increased their strength 46 % more than those who did just one set. • WHY SHOULD YOU KEEP A FITNESS JOURNAL? Keeping a log of what you do will allow you to chart your progress. It will also help you plan your workouts and stick to your goals.
